Who is eligible to apply?
Anyone who is 18 years or older at the point of application is eligible to participate in our programs. College students should have a minimum GPA of 2.5 (on the U.S. scale), and some fields require 2-3 years of university experience. We gladly welcome participants from around the world, and may require further documentation in order to process applications for non-US or Canadian citizens. We do accept gap year students, however certain programs require student status and other eligibility criteria. Please contact us for more information prior to applying.
Once I apply, am I guaranteed an internship?
Once you have been officially accepted into the program we promise to find you an internship in your field of choice. In the rare instance that we are unable to find you a suitable placement, your program deposit will be fully refunded.
What is included in the price of the internship?
In general, every program includes your internship placement and supervision, airport pick-up, on-site orientation, housing, medical and accident insurance, World Internships support from start to finish, on-site support and career coaching. Some programs also include language instruction, cultural activities, and social events. To see what is included in your program, go to the country webpage and look for the “What’s Included” section.

In most cases you will find out about your placement within 4 weeks of your program start date.

As part of our thorough application process, we only accept applicants we are confident that we can place and ask that interns remain patient through the process and trust that we will secure a great internship for the specified program start date.
When will I find out about my housing?
You will find out about your housing 1-2 weeks prior to your program start date
Programs and Participants
Do you offer internship programs other than those listed on the website?
Often times, yes! Many of our program locations offer personalized internships to fit your unique background and goals. We are constantly reaching out to new companies as potential hosts to meet the needs of our interns. Certain fields are more available in some countries than in others and we are happy to work with you to determine which program will be the best fit for your needs.
Are internships paid?
Internships are unpaid, often due to visa restrictions. The experience gained in an international internship is invaluable; not only will you will gain experience in your field in an international context and have the opportunity to network with professionals in your field, but you will get to do so while exploring a new country!
What is the average age of World Internships participants?
In general, our participants range between the ages of 18 and 30. Our programs are catered towards current and recently graduated students who are looking to build their resume and gain the professional experience required to launch their career. Many of our countries require a student or working holiday visa, which often are only available to those under 30 years of age.
What visa will I need to participate in the program?
Our team can help advise all applicants on the visa process, but we cannot secure the necessary visa for you. Visa processes vary greatly by country of origin and destination, therefore, it is ultimately the responsibility of the applicant to check with his/her home consulate to figure out which visa is appropriate, if they are eligible, and how to apply for it.
If the applicant is unable to secure his/her visa after the application process has begun, they are not eligible for a refund. Accepted applicants are encouraged to apply for their visa immediately to ensure processing in time.
When will my internship start?
Internship start dates vary depending on which country you go to for your program. Usually you will arrive in your host country 3-4 days before your internship begins. This allows time for you to settle into your housing, complete our on-site orientation and feel prepared for your first day of your internship.

What are the application and program deposits used for?
The application deposit is for World Internships to set up the Skype interview with our on-site internship coordinators and to process your application. The internship deposit is then used in order for WI to start the search for the internship itself. The internship deposit is due two weeks after official acceptance and counts towards the overall cost of the program. Both the application fee and the program deposit are non-refundable in the case of voluntary withdrawal from the program.
What is your refund policy?
World Internships will issue refunds on a case by case basis and only under extreme circumstances. The application deposit of $75 and the program deposit of $625 are not refundable for voluntary withdrawal from the program.
Cancellation 30-60 days prior to your program start date will result in a liability of 50% of the total program cost in addition to the $75 application deposit and $625 program deposit. Please be aware that housing deposits and housing payments are most often unrecoverable during this period.
Cancellation under 30 days prior to your program start date will result in a liability of 100% of the total program cost.
World Internships reserves the right to remove students from the program, withhold documents for the university to issue credit, and report to collections for any unpaid debts.
I can’t afford this program, but really want to go! Any advice?
The first thing to do is check with your college/university’s financial aid office to learn about some of the different scholarships and grants they offer. Oftentimes, your own study abroad office will have grants that you can apply for as well. Different departments within each school also have their own grants and scholarships. Therefore, you may be eligible for a study abroad-specific scholarship, and also a scholarship that is specific to your area of study such as business, journalism, or engineering. These are worth applying to since only students in your school are eligible, as opposed to a nationwide scholarship or grant.
Does World Internships provide scholarships or financial aid?
At this time we are able to offer small scholarships that can help you save a few hundred dollars. We have our Bring a Friend Grant where you and a friend will each receive $100 off of your program cost if you both participate on a program. We also have our “second timers” grant, where interns going on a second trip get an automatic $200 off.
Are there any grants or scholarships available?
World Internships is not authorized to provide individuals with financial aid. We do however have a “Referral” grant. If you refer a friend and both of you are accepted into the program, you will each receive $100 off the price of the program! We also offer different promotions throughout the year so please keep a look out and contact us with any questions you have in regards to a specific promotion.
One unique option is to create your own virtual campaign to raise money for your program: www.fundmytravel.com.
We’ve also created a list of resources for grants and scholarships for international internships and international travel.

I currently receive financial aid. Can I use it to pay for my program?
Maybe! It depends on your school’s policies. The best way to find out for sure is to contact your financial aid office or financial guarantor to see if the funds may be applied to a third party program that will further your education.
What can I do to fund my program aside from applying for grants and scholarships?
A lot of students today have taken a grassroots approach to funding their projects and time abroad. Fundraising amongst your friends and family is a good way to spread the word about what you’re doing, and why they should help. Sites like fundmytravel and gofundme are easy-to-use sites that host fundraisers for you. Be sure to read the fine print as some sites have strict technicalities about timeline, or have a minimum amount you must raise in order to get the money.
